A school has enough moving parts.

Student information, attendance, individual learning plans, staff coordination, and reporting all need to work together. When they do not, the people running the school become the integration layer.

OrcaTide brings those workflows into a shared application designed for small special-education schools. It is used in production by Goodwin Learning Academy.

Connect the day-to-day work.

The application includes student records, attendance and daily tracking, schedules, individual learning plans, staff management, forms, alerts, reports, messages, and an audit log.

Role-based access gives different users the tools and information appropriate to their work. The application supports multiple organizations, with data boundaries enforced in the database.

The details are the product.

A school day is a local date, not just a timestamp. Arizona’s time handling needed explicit attention so a record would stay attached to the correct day.

An empty roster also has to mean something specific. A failed query must not look like a reassuring screen with no issues to address. Errors are surfaced so users can distinguish missing data from a system problem.

Those details are supported by repeatable tests of core workflows and deliberate database migrations.

Software built to be used.

The application combines Next.js and React with Supabase and PostgreSQL. Row-level security supports the organization and role boundaries, while Playwright checks key journeys.

The portfolio illustration uses sample content. The production application and student information remain private.
